A shell-and-tube evaporator is a heat exchanger that is used to cool water, aqueous solutions of propylene and ethylene glycol or other coolants in chillers, in industrial refrigeration systems and provides cooling of gaseous or liquid media. An evaporator is a necessary component of a refrigeration machine or heat pump, in which the refrigerant boils, taking in the heat of the medium being cooled.
