Semi-welded heat exchangers are used as evaporators and condensers or when one of the media can destroy the seal material during operation
Advantages of semi-welded heat exchangers:

Each pair of plates is welded to each other along the perimeter of the plates and nozzles, forming a welded section into which an aggressive or highly volatile medium is supplied. The heat exchanger consists of a set of such sections. Each section is connected to each other by means of special intermediate and O-ring seals. Another coolant is supplied to the channel between the sections. The package of heat exchange plates is divided into sections, and each section can be mechanically washed from both sides, washing inside the section is difficult and can only be carried out chemically.
